Not On the Surface

Red rivers of clay, and oceans of turquoise,
beneath azure skies, or storms of grey.
Complex desert oases and golden sand,
emerald lawns and forests of autumn,
some harsh and unforgiving, others,
soft puffy clouds of welcoming.
Is she beautiful or not?
Judgement on Nature and
her appearance, subjective
on preference, or the day.
But what of her being
and all that she is, in
self-repair, and giving?
Food for nourishment and
for great thought, gems for
our wealth, and stones for
our homes, wood for our fires,
and water for our thirst.
Is she beautiful or not?
Who are we to declare truth?
And underneath my skin
is where you
will find
me.
